In addition to the Virtuoso Violas Festival, there will be a viola solo competition on Friday, October 30th, 2009 for viola students in grades 9 through 12. Prizes are as follows: Paul Rolland Memorial Award $200; Ann Matthews Memorial Award $150; Third prize $100. Previous first place winners are not eligible.

Last year's Virtuoso Violas was a total success. Comments from students, as well as parents, showed their appreciation for a day reserved for the lovely sound of violas.
Students realized how much they had improved their playing skills in such a short time under the direction of master violists and many have already said they will be back again for Virtuoso Violas 2009.

VIOLISTS! Here’s your chance to be among students and teachers who love to play the viola as much as you do! Come to the Virtuoso Violas Festival and you will be able to attend a class taught by outstanding string musicians. The workshop will culminate in performances in the auditorium at The Academy at Hendrix Junior High School at 12:00PM, in which all participants will perform. The public is invited to attend the 12:00PM performances.
LEVEL I: FIRST YEAR STUDENTS (IN THEIR FIRST YEAR OF INSTRUCTION.)
LEVEL II: SECOND AND THIRD YEAR STUDENTS (5th & 6th Grades)
LEVEL III: JUNIOR HIGH & MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
LEVEL IV: HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
REGISTRATION: Music will be provided for all levels. Please register online by clicking the button on the upper right of this page. Students pre-registering before October 21st pay only $15.00. After October 21st the late registration fee is $20.00. Late registration can be accepted on the day of the event. Registration will take place outside The Academy at Hendrix Junior High School auditorium from 8:30am until 9:00am. The auditorium is located on the south side of the school.
LEVEL 4 CLASS: Before the workshop begins a special master class concentrating on the Arizona All-State Viola Etudes will be held for high school students from 8 - 9 a.m.
T-SHIRTS: During registration T-shirts featuring the Virtuoso Violas logo will be on sale for $10.00 in sizes M, L, XL (limited to shirts on hand).
