Wow, this is the 16th year of Bass Jam! Wait 'til you hear this year's performances in styles of slap bass, jazz bass, and classical bass. The large ensemble will perform some special arrangements written just for the group and maybe even a few December favorites.

Bass Jam 2011!

Can you imagine a day devoted to the unsung heroes of the orchestra, the underappreciated bass players? Bass Jam is just that kind of day! Not only will the lonely bass players be welcomed at Bass Jam, they will be surrounded by other big-hearted lovers of the bass.

During the morning of fun, students will improve their skills in bass classes with master teachers and also listen to a special guest performer. The culminating event is a recital of the combined bass classes and a performance by the senior division competition winner for parents and friends.

Bass Jam has two parts: the optional Solo Competition and workshop.

Participation fee is $20   (Late registration after Nov. 30th  is $30.00)
Teachers with students attending are free.
Participation in the solo competition is $10
T-shirts are $15

Performance Levels:
Using the descriptions below, consult with your teacher to
determine your performance level.  Participants will be divided
into five levels.

Level 1:   Advanced Bassists, able to perform in upper
           positions and able to read tenor clef.
Level 2:   Bassists comfortable with all positions to first
           octave harmonic (sixth position).
Level 3:   Bassists comfortable with the notes in First,
           Second and Third positions.
Level 4:   Bassists with a firm understanding of First and
           Half position notes on all strings.
Level 5:   Bassists who began during the summer of 20011
           or current school year. 

 

Solo Competition Information - December 9th at 5:00 p.m.

Junior and senior Division participants will prepare a solo for string bass of their choice. Solos written with piano accompaniment must be performed with accompaniment. Entrants must provide two copies of their music for the judges. Winners will be announced folliwing the last competitor's performance. There will be two Jr division winners and three Sr division winners. Competitors must live in Arizona and participate in Saturday's events.
